Shop local buy local support local eat local I’m all about it. Like most people though I shop all over-online too. That is the way IT IS in this weird and wonderful modern world. Kerr Street in Oakville is a curious place with a plethora of entrepreneurs trying out new business ideas and working hard to get them going. Kerr St. deserves a closer look. It’s our local!
Justino’s Wood Oven Pizza is new and really good. On a recent Saturday night visit we of course ordered the pizza – all soft crust wood fired oven goodness with homemade tomato sauce prosciutto and basil laden on top. Caesar Salad was our salad of choice – large enough to share between two people. More elaborate salads such as Calamari with fennel and orange or Justino’s Own with sundried tomatoes, olives, cucumber and goat cheese would be fantastico choices too! Antipasto Misto,Grilled Panini, Pasta, Steak and Salmon are also on the menu but will have to wait until next time. A friendly server delivered generous 6oz size glasses of wine and beer (on tap) to our table.
The owner, Peter is a Venetian and previously had a take out pizza establishment in Lorne Park. Peter is part of a new and growing group of restaurant entrepreneurs on Kerr St. now occupying long vacant spaces and dazzling us with their talent and innovation.
Justino’s is divided into two spaces. The entry side has more of a neighbourhood bar feel with high top tables and a big screen tv behind the bar tuned into to Hockey Night in Canada. Couples with baby strollers wheel in for a quick bite at the bar. This space has large west-facing windows which dramatically capture the setting sun and early evening light.
The other side of Justino’s is comfortable and simple. The space is filled with tables and funky Italianate armchairs providing views to Kerr St. and to the semi open kitchen space. It is us, the diners that will in part make Justino’s colorful vibrant and a success story.
Lower Kerr Street at Lakeshore Road is home to Kerr Street’s oldest business, the iconic Recordings. This in-the-know kind of store is chock a block full with vintage albums, Cd’s and some new recordings as well. Recordings will make any vinyl music loving persons eyes pop – it’s often open late too. Right next door is Chocolate Alphabet and Gelato perfect for an after dinner scoop or two.
Hustler Snowboard & Skateboard Shop is also right here on lower Kerr St. It is THE place for snow boarders, skate boarders as well as a great place to buy cool clothing with big appeal for the hip people in your life.Hustler sells the best student’ishh bags and backpacks made by Herschel a Canadian brand. Herschel bags are super stylish and sturdy. They are perfect for those wanting to truly make a statement about shopping local and supporting a Canadian business success story!
